Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation requires that you take a prescribed pill, usually Valium, Xanax, or Halcion, before your appointment. You’ll need someone to drive you to and from the dentist’s office, as you’ll likely still feel the effects after your treatment is complete. Once in the treatment chair, the medication will cause you to become deeply relaxed; however, you’ll still be awake. Even if you fall asleep, our team will be able to wake you with a slight tap. This method of sedation can be most beneficial if you have moderate dental anxiety or require multiple services to be completed in one appointment.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide is also known as laughing gas because it is inhaled through a nasal mask that is placed over the nose at the start of treatment. You will remain awake throughout your procedure; however, you will experience no fear or anxiety because of how the gas dulls your senses. Instead of worrying about your surroundings, you’ll be calmer and more at ease while your dentist completes their work. The effects of nitrous oxide come on quickly and dissipate just as fast, so you can be free to resume normal activity after your appointment.
